Join a Silent Reading Party for Cozy, Bookish Vibes this Winter

Get together with fellow readers around Northern Virginia.

By Maggie Roth December 8, 2025 at 8:57 am

For introverts who still want to gather with the community, silent book parties are the perfect middle ground. These quiet events invite readers to get together and read independently, giving participants a chance to meet fellow readers without the pressure of typical book clubs. Here’s where you can participate in Northern Virginia.

Hotel AKA’s Silent Reading Party

Hotel AKA is hosting a silent reading party on Sunday, December 14, in the a.lounge+bar. Guests will bring their current read and settle in for two hours of uninterrupted reading time.

The event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are around $34, and each ticket includes a holiday cocktail or mocktail to enjoy during the event.

At 1 p.m., there’s an optional crafting add-on with Relume. Those who participate in the craft can create a “My Year in Books” ornament featuring miniature versions of book covers.

Old Town Books will also be at the event offering “cozy holiday reads and picks from their holiday gift guide.”

Silent Book Clubs

If you miss Hotel AKA’s event (or can’t get enough), you can still participate in a silent reading event. The Silent Book Club, a global organization that kicked off the silent reading party phenomenon in 2012, has several chapters in Northern Virginia and DC. (Worldwide, they have nearly 2,000.)

There are outposts of the Silent Book Club in Alexandria, Arlington, DC, Fairfax, Reston, Leesburg, Purcellville, and more. Check out Silent Book Club’s map of chapters to find one.
