A Sauna-Filled Wellness Festival Debuts in DC This Weekend

Bathe-ing DC is the first sauna festival of its kind in the northeast.

A free wellness event is coming to DC. Bathe-ing DC will run Saturday, October 18, to Sunday, October 19, at the Sandlot in Anacostia.

The sauna village, the “centerpiece” of the event, will include mobile saunas for a variety of experiences. Guests can try guided meditation, breathwork, sound bowls, and treatments. The event will also feature movement workshops, a “wellness hub,” a makers’ market, food vendors, and a children’s area.

Bathe-ing DC will be hosted by the Therme Group, the developer planning to build a 15-acre “wellbeing destination” called Therme DC in Poplar Point. The upcoming facility will feature thermal baths, saunas and wet rooms, water slides, and relaxation beds. Bathe-ing DC will serve as a preview for the community to learn more about what’s to come at Therme DC.

The Therme Group runs what it calls “the world’s largest sauna festival” at its Bucharest, Romania, location. Now, it plans to introduce a similar experience in DC. While sauna festivals are popular in Europe, it says this will be the first festival of its kind in the northeast U.S. region.

“Bathe-ing DC aims to offer Washingtonians a new way to gather and recharge,” says Wanda Lockridge, Therme DC director of community engagement. “Our goal is for local residents to see themselves reflected in this event, and to experience the inclusive, community-centered vision Therme is bringing to the city. We’re excited to share this experience with DC for the first time in a way that’s free, accessible, and fun for all ages.”

The festival is free, however, some sessions require advance reservations on Eventbrite.
