Season 2 of Squid Game: The Challenge premiered on Netflix on November 4, and 10 of the 456 players are from Virginia. The nine-episode reality competition series follows contestants as they battle it out in physical, mental, and social challenges for the chance to win a $4.56 million cash prize.
Four of the nine episodes are available to stream now. Episodes five through eight will be available November 11, and the finale will be available on November 18.
The show is modeled after the fictional South Korean series Squid Game, a three-season show about competitors fighting to the death for a similarly large cash prize. In both series, more money is added to the prize pool as more contestants are eliminated.
This season will feature both new and old games, including marbles, a six-legged pentathlon, and a special game of catch.

NoVA’s Season 1 Winner
Falls Church immigration adjudicator Mai Whelan took home the cash prize in the first season of the series in 2023. To earn the prize, she bested her competitors in challenges like Red Light, Green Light; Circle of Trust; and a game of rock, paper, scissors. She told Northern Virginia Magazine in 2024 that she felt the show created a unique mental challenge.
“The biggest challenge that is different from the rest is that we were sequestered,” Whelan said. “We were constantly on camera 24/7, even in the bathroom. The mental challenge is totally different from any reality show.”
Whelan said that she planned to invest the funds from the $4.56 million prize.
While Season 2 has only just debuted, Netflix is already casting for Season 3 at SquidGameCasting.com, with both a U.S. and U.K. casting pool.
