The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm, ranked as Northern Virginia Magazine‘s No. 1 restaurant in 2024, is closing its doors on August 31. Owner Beverly Morton Billand posted the news on Facebook Sunday night.
“There comes a moment when we must honor the natural rhythm of life and embrace change. That moment has arrived,” she wrote. “What began as a dream blossomed into a beautiful chapter.”
The Lovettsville farm restaurant is perched overlooking the Potomac River. It features an eight-course seasonal tasting menu that includes its “welcome basket,” with bite-sized gifts from the kitchen accompanied by fresh flowers from the property.
Last November, food critic Alice Levitt wrote: “Colby Janowitz, an alum of California’s three-starred SingleThread, one of only two American restaurants on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, took over the kitchen at this Lovettsville working farm last summer. Since then, NoVA has been treated to its own slice of SingleThread’s aesthetic, and The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm has never been better. ”
The restaurant has been a perennial on our 50 Best Restaurants list, and was also ranked No. 1 in 2022. It first opened in 1997, about a decade after the farm was established.
Fans of the restaurant posted messages on Facebook recalling anniversaries, birthdays, and engagements at Patowmack Farm.
