Alexandria residents should be on the lookout for bots. Serve Robotics Inc. has partnered with the City of Alexandria and Uber Eats to offer autonomous food delivery.
The small robots will be rolling around making deliveries in Del Rey, Potomac West, Old Town North, and nearby neighborhoods. Serve Robotics says it plans to expand into additional Alexandria neighborhoods in the coming months.
“Alexandria’s vibrant heritage, strong sense of community, and ongoing focus on smart mobility make it an ideal launch ground for our next generation of sidewalk robots,” Ali Kashani, CEO and co-founder of Serve Robotics said in a release.
Serve Robotics began as an Uber company but is now an independent entity. It currently operates in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Atlanta, and has partnered with Uber Eats as well as 7-Eleven and Door Dash. In the past year, the company says it has completed more than 100,000 robotic food deliveries.
Alexandria residents and businesses in Serve’s delivery area who order through the Uber Eats app may be assigned to a robot when one is available. Currently, customers cannot directly request robot delivery through the app.
