In the quiet Bartenstein neighborhood of Warrenton, this four-bedroom, three-bathroom cottage with 2,165 square feet is full of character. Built in 1940, 222 Locust St. has three finished stories with hardwood floors, high ceilings, and crown molding throughout. Inside the unique curved, green door is a home full of custom built-ins that sits on a lush, landscaped lawn.

The charming cottage was listed for $538,000 and is currently under contract.

Through the curved, green front door is a small entry hallway leading to the bright living space. With hardwood floors, built-in shelves, crown molding, and arched doorways, this family room is full of charm. A refinished wood-burning fireplace sits in the center of the room, surrounded by windows with custom white shutters. An arched, crown-molded doorway leads to the adjacent dining room.

This galley-style dining room is full of built-in features. Built-in shelving and under-stair cabinets provide plenty of storage, while the built-in bench-style seating makes eating every meal a cozy occasion. The built-in decorative shelves and chandelier add to the home’s cottage charm, while the windows with custom shutters keep the room feeling airy and spacious.

Through the dining room is a galley kitchen with tons of built-in shelves and custom cabinets. The crown molding, tile countertops, and an ornate backsplash detail (which matches the cabinets) emphasize the original character of this 1940 build. The black and white striped floors and stainless steel dishwasher, oven, cooktop, and vent system add a modern touch to the cooking space. Along with recessed lighting and a hanging light feature, the two windows above the farmhouse sink keep the space bright and full of natural light.

On the main floor of the home, two bedrooms and a full, renovated bathroom sit around the corner from a chalkboard wall in the dining room. A door keeps the bedroom and bathroom spaces private from the living spaces, and the hallway features a charming custom cabinet, wood floors, and crown molding. The bedrooms each feature built-in bookshelves and lots of natural light from large windows. One of the bedrooms features a built-in desk, making it easy to transform into an office space. The updated bathroom features barnwood-style ceramic flooring and a clawfoot tub.

The vaulted ceilings, built-in storage, and a window with a foliage view create a cozy, spacious feeling in the primary bedroom. The bedroom also features built-in cabinets, a ceiling fan, and hardwood floors. The second, adjacent bedroom features more built-in shelves, arched ceilings, and a ceiling fan. Both bedrooms have walk-in closets with ample amounts of storage space. The shared, updated bathroom features a striking patterned tile floor, quartz countertops with dual sinks, a standing shower, and a skylight that allows tons of natural light.

The finished basement on the bottom floor is flexible, with potential to be used for a home gym, an office, a craft room, and more. A room downstairs with a connected half bathroom could also be used for another bedroom. Wall to wall built-in cabinets and shelves allow the space to remain open for living, while optimizing storage.
