The best fall adventures start with a back road. And a trip to Clarion County, Pennsylvania is the perfect destination to experience them. Just a few scenic hours away, you’ll find fiery foliage, lively festivals, and small-town charm along winding back roads that make autumn unforgettable. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor escape or a small-town retreat, Clarion County has something for everyone.

For one of the best views of fall foliage, pack your hiking boots and visit Cook Forest State Park. Drive down Fire Tower Road and you’ll meander through towering trees before making the short trek up to Seneca Point Overlook and the historic Fire Tower. The most ambitious visitors can climb to the top of the Fire Tower for stunning autumn views of Cook Forest State Park and the Clarion River below. Continue your hike on one of the many pristine trails throughout the park before heading back to your campsite or cozy cabin for an evening of rest and relaxation.

For another incredible view of the autumn scenery, be sure to stop at Brady’s Bend Overlook along Route 68, where you’ll find the Allegheny River curving dramatically through the hills ablaze with fall color — one of Pennsylvania’s most stunning roadside vistas.

A fall road trip here isn’t just about the forests — it’s also about the towns tucked along the rivers. As you head south on scenic Miola Road or Route 66 from Cook Forest into Clarion, don’t miss the Autumn Leaf Festival, an iconic tradition that transforms the town into a bustling hub of parades, food, crafts, and music, drawing crowds of thousands from across the northeast. If convenience is your style, you’ll find welcoming hotels or modern lofts right in town — ideal for staying close to dining, shops, and fall festivities.

In New Bethlehem, the Peanut Butter Festival celebrates one of Pennsylvania’s quirkiest traditions with live entertainment, vendors, family fun, and plenty of peanut butter.

Foxburg is a serene resort town where you can stroll or bike the Allegheny River Trail, capturing views of the Clarion and Allegheny Rivers converging. The Foxburg Fall Festival blends art, food, music, and local vendors against a stunning riverfront backdrop. Can’t make it for the festival? Foxburg still has plenty to offer. Tee off at the nation’s oldest golf course in continuous use, enjoy anything from pizza to fine dining, and unwind with an overnight stay at the elegant Foxburg Inn. All the while, soak in sweeping river views that capture the town’s laid-back charm and storybook setting.

Make Clarion County your fall tradition. With miles of winding country roads and legendary overlooks, to quirky festivals, riverside escapes, and lodging that fits every style, Clarion County is a road trip worth repeating year after year. This fall, trade the hustle and bustle for crisp air, golden leaves, and backroad adventures that showcase the very best of Pennsylvania.
