The 2025 holiday season is drawing near, and for families in search of a festive destination, look no further than Charlottesville, Virginia, and its historic Downtown Mall. Located just 100 miles from Washington, DC’s suburbs, Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall is the city’s well-known hub of eateries, boutique shops, performing arts venues, and galleries. The brick walkways, gooseneck style lamp posts, and trees draped in twinkling lights are reminiscent of your favorite holiday movie, with the potential for a small town meet cute around every corner. And this space doesn’t just look the part — it delivers, with century-old bookstores, theaters, even a pharmacy and soda fountain so authentic you’ll wonder if a young George Bailey once worked behind the counter.

For families, these elements create an experience both timeless and magical, the opportunity to slow down, and take it all in. Downtown Charlottesville’s annual Magic on the Mall events invite families to create lasting holiday memories together. From hearing the “choo-choo” of the holiday train chugging along, to witnessing children’s eyes filled with wonder as they drop off their letter to Santa, families can count on creating a lasting impression through this special holiday trip to Charlottesville.
