Celebrate the Holidays in Fairfax County at These 6 Family-Friendly Events

Ride a train, meet Santa, and play festive mini golf at these parks and rec centers.

Looking for a way to give your family a little holiday cheer? The Fairfax County Park Authority is hosting a range of fun, festive, and kid-friendly events this December. Head to one of these parks and rec centers for a chance to meet Santa, ride on a holiday train, and more.

Holiday on the Farm 

Fridays and Saturdays through December 20 

At Frying Pan Farm Park, visitors can take wagon rides through light displays, visit Santa, and warm up by a campfire. There will also be crafts for kids and a chance to see the farm’s animals. Each ticket includes a wagon, trackless train, and carousel ride. Frying Pan Farm Park: 2709 W. Ox Rd., Herndon, $15–$20

Winter Wonderland at Burke Lake 

Saturdays and Sundays through December 21 

At Burke Lake Park, kids can take a festive train ride on the Holiday Express, ride the Carolers Carousel, and play a round of Gingerbread Man Golf at the onsite course. Visitors can also make s’mores, sip hot cocoa, and meet Santa. Burke Lake Park: 7315 Ox Rd., Fairfax Station, $20–$25 

Candy Cane Lane Mini Golf 

December 13 

Oakmont Rec Center’s mini golf course will be adorned with festive holiday lights for this wintry event. There will be hot chocolate, treats, and crafts. Oakmont Rec Center: 3200 Jermantown Rd., Oakton, $12–$15 

Santa at the Mill 

December 13, 14 

Santa will arrive at Colvin Mill Run (which is decorated for the holidays) on December 13 and 14. Kids can visit St. Nick, roast marshmallows, listen to music, and complete a holiday craft. There are sensory-friendly time slots available as well. Colvin Mill Run: 10017 Colvin Run Rd., Great Falls, $10 

Holiday Lantern Tour at Colvin Run Mill 

December 19 

Stop by the Colvin Mill Run for a Holiday Lantern Tour. Guests can explore the historic mill and learn how families spent holidays in the past. Colvin Mill Run: 10017 Colvin Run Rd., Great Falls, $12 

Holiday and Ugly Sweater Skate and Dance Night 

December 20 

Get your brightest holiday sweater ready for this skating event at the Franconia Rec Center. Santa and some of his elves will visit, and there will be a live DJ. Franconia Rec Center: 6601 Telegraph Rd., Alexandria, $10
