Yankee Candle fans should stock up now. Parent company Newell Brands announced on December 1 that it plans to close approximately 20 stores in the U.S. and Canada next month.
The brand currently operates 12 stand-alone stores in Virginia. Four of these are in NoVA, in Leesburg, Potomac Mills, Gainesville, and Fredericksburg. The company has not yet stated which stores will be affected.

In addition to Yankee Candle, Newell also owns more than 50 brands. These include Graco, Coleman, Oster, Rubbermaid, Sunbeam, Sharpie, and Elmer’s. It says the Yankee Candle store closures represent roughly 1 percent of its sales.
According to Newell Brands, the closures are part of the company’s “global productivity plan” that “aligns the brand’s footprint with modern consumer shopping behaviors and supports its multi-channel growth strategy.” Newell also plans to “reduce its global workforce by over 900 employees (approximately 10 percent of professional and clerical employees), with limited impact on manufacturing or supply chain operations.”
