Editorial Internships at Northern Virginia Magazine
Interning at the Magazine
Northern Virginia Magazine is a monthly regional magazine that reaches thousands of residents from Arlington and Alexandria to Loudoun County and beyond through our print and digital platforms. As a lifestyle publication, we regularly cover all things NoVA across a wide span of categories, including what to eat, what to do, and where to go, as well as news feature stories and profiles of the fascinating personalities in our region.
This internship offers the opportunity to gain extensive experience in the publishing industry.
The editorial intern will get the opportunity to pitch story ideas, report and write for the website and print magazine, compile research, prepare articles for digital publication, and copy edit and fact-check stories.
Application Requirements
Applicants must be in at least their junior year of college. (Summer applicants must be rising juniors or seniors.) Journalism, English, and Communications majors and minors are encouraged to apply, and we will also take experience with college publications and other media experience into account. Experience with AP Style, Adobe products, and WordPress is a plus, but not required.
This is a paid, in-person internship. We request a minimum of 16 hours per week, with a maximum of 25 hours per week. We will work with all interns to ensure they receive college credit, but credit is not required. Candidates will also need reliable transportation to our office in Chantilly and to get around the Northern Virginia region.
Candidates for either internship position should submit a cover letter, resume, and two to three writing samples.
Deadlines for applications are:
Spring 2026: December 15, 2025; Summer 2026: March 15, 2026; Fall 2026: August 1, 2026
