Located in Merrifield, the mixed-use development Mosaic District<\/a> is known for its walkable shopping and dining options. The shopping center is growing, with new storefronts popping up and “coming soon” signs plastered onto windows for eateries that will serve everything from doughnuts to Asian street food. With several unclaimed, vacant retails spaces scattered throughout the district, even more dining and shopping could be on the way to Merrifield residents and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new luxury linen<\/a> storefront opened its doors in June. The brand offers bedding sets and bundles, bath towels, robes, mats, and shower curtains, pillows, furniture, pajamas, and more. 2921 District Ave., Ste. 110<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

District Candle Lab<\/a> and Fawne<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Customize your own scent for an 8-ounce or 12-ounce soy wax candle with this candle lab experience. An attendant guides you through the scent-creating and wax-pouring process. While you wait for your candle to set, build your own necklace, bracelet, or anklet at Fawne\u2019s charm bar inside the same storefront. This is the first Virginia candle lab location; it opened in May. 2910 District Ave., Ste. 130<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

HiFi Tex-Mex BBQ<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The second location<\/a> of this Mexican and Texas barbecue fusion bar and restaurant opened this spring with plates like smoked pulled pork, three-cheese enchiladas, sliced brisket, and several variations of tacos. The bar offers a variety of beer, wine, and specialty cocktails, with daily drink specials like $8 ranch waters on Wednesdays, $15 giant margaritas on Fridays, and $24 beer buckets on the weekends. 8298 Glass Alley<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

This is the first Virginia location of this New York\u2013based bakery and caf\u00e9<\/a>. The French-inspired menu features allergen-friendly breakfast and lunch options like overnight oats, smashed avocado tartine, eggs ratatouille, and a variety of pastries. The caf\u00e9 also serves specialty coffee and tea beverages like a lavender hot chocolate, pumpkin pie latt\u00e9, and vanilla honey butter latt\u00e9 with sweet corn foam and cornbread crumbs. 2920 District Ave. Ste. 150<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NAJA Mediterranean<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Taking over the former Kirby Club<\/a> space, this Mediterranean spot<\/a> is named after owner Tariq Alaeddin’s Lebanese grandmother. Alaeddin worked on the Kirby Club team for three years before taking over and making the spot his own. The restaurant menu features traditional Mediterranean and Lebanese dishes like falafel, labneh, tzatziki, baba ghanouj, and kebabs. 2911 District Ave. Ste. 140<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Strawberry Park Playground<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This new playground<\/a> opened at the end of September with a ribbon cutting ceremony and family-friendly celebration. The park is around the corner from JINYA Ramen Bar and features a climbing cube, spinner and springer rides, outdoor drums, and a vibrant mural. 2911 District Ave.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zakaa Couture<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This luxury bridal brand opened a new store in Mosaic over the summer, offering wedding dresses from founder and designer Asma Zaka. There are also locations in DC and Ashburn. 2910 District Ave., Ste. 150<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hawkers Asian Street Food<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A \u201ccoming soon\u201d sign for this street food restaurant means Mosaic residents and visitors can look forward to dishes like Hong Kong sticky ribs, spiced lamb street skewers, bibimbap, Singapore mei fun, curry laksa ramen, and a variety of dim sum options. This Asian fusion spot has locations in Ballston and Bethesda, serving recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. 8190 Strawberry Ln., Ste. 1<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OneLife Fitness<\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mosaic District and OneLife Fitness recently announced<\/a> a new 50,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility planned to take over the office space above True Food Kitchen, formerly Custom Ink. The fitness franchise has over 30 locations in the DMV area that offer amenities like studio classes, personal training, basketball courts, swimming pools, and kids clubs. 2910 District Ave.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

The Salty<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mosaic residents and visitors have been patiently waiting for this donut shop and caf\u00e9 to open its doors since last year’s announcement that it would be coming to Merrifield. Other locations offer specialty donut flavors like pistachio cannoli, gluten free chocolate chip and sea salt, and vegan apple crumb.\u00a0Husband-and-wife duo Andy Rodriguez and Amanda Pizarro started the business in 2014, and they’ve opened storefronts in six states, with a DC location also in the works. 2905 District Ave., Ste. 180<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
