Angie Goff arrives for a photo shoot for the cover of our June Best of NoVA<\/a> issue at Heirloom<\/a> in Reston, loaded down with dresses, shoes, jewelry \u2014 and her coffee. She got home from her job as a FOX5DC news anchor around midnight, and her husband is out of town, so she was tasked with getting her four kids out the door while getting herself together for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While a stylist works on her hair and makeup, Goff chats about how her life \u201cradically changed\u201d when she started working evenings at FOX5 about five years ago. For many years, she worked mornings at different stations in the DC market. (\u201cThe joke is that I get around town \u2014 I\u2019m a get-around-town girl,\u201d she laughs, adding that she\u2019s loved everywhere she\u2019s worked.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI feel like anybody who tells you that they like doing early mornings, that they\u2019re lying,\u201d she says. \u201cYeah, you can use coffee to power through it, but eventually your body is gonna give. And for me, the witching hour was always around the time to pick up my kids [from school]. So, while I was fortunate to have the afternoons with them, I was a T. rex. I just feel like I couldn\u2019t be the best me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even with the shift to evenings, Goff still keeps a packed schedule anchoring newscasts at 4, 6, 7, and 10 p.m., driving her kids to their activities, and capturing it all for her large (and dedicated) group of Instagram followers<\/a>. \u201cI actually have a taxicab light that I can throw on top of my car. And it\u2019s a joke \u2014 I mean, I haven\u2019t done it yet \u2014 but I literally want to do that.\u201d Still, she says there\u2019s one big advantage to the driving gig: It gives her time to talk with her kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Goff, there\u2019s never a typical day. Some days she\u2019s taking her 14-year-old daughter, Adora, to ice skating practice at 5:30 a.m. or spending hours watching her in action at a modeling shoot. Son Robert, 12, plays travel basketball; daughter Wren, 7, is an impressive ballroom dancer; and the baby, son March, turns 2 in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe started all over,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd actually, it\u2019s been so fun because I just feel like I\u2019m at a point in my life where I can actually be a good mom.\u201d The older kids adore March, too. \u201cI mean, they don\u2019t help change diapers or anything \u2014 I\u2019m not going to say they\u2019re extra hands in that way \u2014 but just the fact that they love him so much and they love playing with him, and it brings out the kid in them, too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goff says she\u2019s long felt connected to Northern Virginia, where she spent much of her childhood as a military brat. As an adult, she lived for years near the Reston Town Center<\/a>, and even though she and her family now live in McLean, she still hosts Reston\u2019s annual holiday parade. Her husband, a pediatric dentist, is based full-time here now, too, after commuting between NoVA and his practice in South Carolina. Her parents retired here, and her two sisters live in the area as well. \u201cIt\u2019s my safe space \u2026 there\u2019s comfort in it,\u201d she says of NoVA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s clear she\u2019s also comfortable in front of the camera \u2014 be it to report the news, document her day on Instagram, or whip up a cocktail at our cover shoot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
