Fairfax County’s Mount Vernon Rec Center will reopen on June 9 after undergoing a $74 million renovation. And the facility includes exciting new features.

When it reopens this week, the facility will unveil a new NHL-sized ice rink, complete with a warming room, a skate rental area, and skate sharpening services. In addition to the new rink, the two-level fitness center has been upgraded and expanded with cardio and strength equipment. There are four new studio classrooms to host fitness classes including yoga, Pilates, and tai chi.
The renovations also included the construction of a new two-story climbing wall, which will open to patrons on June 23. Mount Vernon will be the only Fairfax County Rec Center to have a climbing wall.

Mount Vernon’s reopening will happen in phases. The ice rinks and fitness center will be available starting June 9. Then, summer camps, Parktakes classes, and drop-in group fitness classes will start on June 16. Drop-in child care and access to the climbing wall will open on June 23. The facility will begin hosting birthday parties in July.
The pool area is still undergoing renovations and will reopen at a later date, yet to be announced.
For the first few weeks of operation, Mount Vernon Rec Center will operate on modified hours. Until July 6, it will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Regular hours (5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and the same weekend hours) resume July 7.
Fairfax County will offer discounted memberships (25 percent off annual memberships) to new members for a limited time. Memberships to Mount Vernon also include membership to all nine Fairfax County Rec Centers.
