This past spring, Alex Ovechkin made history when he scored his 895th career goal, breaking the 36-year-old NHL goal scoring record. Now, that historic feat will be immortalized in corn. Summers Farm in Maryland will honor Ovechkin with a 6-acre corn maze celebrating his new record.
The maze officially opens on Saturday, August 23 and will be open through Friday, October 31.
“We wanted to honor one of the greatest athletes of our generation in a way that’s unforgettable and full of energy — just like Ovi,” said Teresa Summers, who owns and operates Summers Farm with her two sons, in a news release. “His record-breaking moment is historic, and we’re thrilled to carve that legacy into our fields this fall. Ovi’s milestone is one for the history books — and now, one for the cornfields!”
The maze features Alex Ovechkin’s famous shot silhouette and the words “GR8NESS 895.” Since it’s almost impossible to make it through a corn maze without getting lost, there will be Caps-themed trivia throughout the maze to help you find your way to the finish line.
In addition to the maze, Summers Farm’s annual Fall Festival will include hayrides, pick-your-own pumpkins, farm animals, and fireworks every Saturday in October. The farm will also be hosting special Caps-themed activities to be announced at a later date.
A portion of the proceeds from this year’s maze will benefit The GR8 CHASE for Victory Over Cancer, which Ovechkin launched in March to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research. Ticket prices have yet to be announced for the maze and the farm’s Fall Festival.
Located in Middletown, Maryland, Summers Farm is known for its outrageous corn maze designs. In previous years, the farm has created mazes celebrating Luke Bryan, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and first responders. 7503 Hollow Rd., Middletown
