New Playgrounds Are Popping Up Across Northern Virginia

Check out rope swings, climbing walls, swings, and more at these new and upcoming play areas.

With autumn in full swing, dropping temperatures can mean it’s harder to find a way to get the family outdoors. These new and upcoming playgrounds are a great way to stay active despite the chilly weather. You’ll find equipment like slides and swings, plus interactive, sensory activities like American Sign Language communication boards, sliding puzzles, and tic-tac-toe.

New Playgrounds

Strawberry Park Playground

Fairfax County Park Authority celebrated the opening of this playground at Mosaic District on September 26 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, and children’s activities. The new park features climbing structures, slides, tunnels, seating, and a large mural. 2911 District Ave., Fairfax

Ida Lee Park Playground

Leesburg’s Parks and Recreation Department unveiled a new playground in August at Ida Lee Park, intended for children 5 and under. The nature-themed park features a play bus, a giant caterpillar, slides, and more sensory activities. Located between Ida Lee Park Recreation Center and the A.V. Capital One East Park

With plenty of seating for snack breaks and just steps away from the NCAA baseball stadium Capital One Park, this new Tysons playground is a day-out destination. The park opened in early September with slides, wall climbing, rope climbing, and more. 1600 Scott’s Crossing Rd., Tysons
