Fall Décor Season: These Markets and Garden Centers Have What You Need

Whether it’s a simple pumpkin selection or you want to go all out for autumn, these NoVA spots can supply not only the décor but also inspiration.

Autumn is here, and it’s time for cozy sweaters, warm beverages, and to stock up on pumpkins, mums, and all the fun fall décor.

After all, does it really feel like autumn until you’ve decorated? Luckily, NoVA has lots of places where you can find that fall décor and probably a few other things. Here are some worth checking out.

Cox Farms

Shop for pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, and ornamental corns to put on your porch or deck this fall. Other seasonal items at the family-owned farm market include fun yard art, like scarecrows, and indoor trinkets. Once you’ve figured out how to make your home festive for fall and picked up a few baked goods, check out the Cox Farms Fall Festival, one of the largest seasonal events in the DMV area that runs Thursdays through Mondays through November 9. 15621 Braddock Rd., Centreville

Nalls Produce

The colorful selection at this longtime family farm makes it hard to narrow down your choices. You can pick up mums, pumpkins, and gourds for decoration, plus lots of apple varieties and a new pumpkin spiced donut to munch on. The cozy white lights at the farm stand make it all the more festive. Pumpkin Hill, 30-year tradition at Nalls, is a free play area for kids with a pumpkin-themed fort and tunnels. Don’t miss taking your selfies at the famed Pumpkin Wall, open through the first weekend in November. Pumpkin Hill is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 7310 Buluah St. Alexandria

DePaul’s Urban Farm

Between pumpkins straight from the patch and stunningly colorful combination mums, you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by the selection here. Mix and match gourds and little pumpkins to make an indoor fall décor basket or cornucopia. Tuck autumn foliage and native plants into your outdoor pumpkin display. Select some autumn housewares, pottery, soaps, or candles at the cottage garden shop. And once you’ve picked up your decorating items, treat yourself to a delicious apple cider doughnut. We won’t tell. The farm is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 2599 Chain Bridge Rd., Vienna

Merrifield Garden Center

Merrifield Garden Center in Falls Church is the perfect place to get pumpkins and home décor items for every room of your home. The products change frequently, so be sure to check back! For gardeners, Merrifield offers its own planting mix, lawn food, and grass seed. The garden center has three NoVA locations and is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. 8132 Route 29, Falls Church; 12101 Route 29, Fairfax; 6895 Wellington Rd., Gainesville

Greenstreet Gardens

Stock up on autumn flowers and seasonal gifts in Alexandria. You’ll find sunflower plants that you can build fall décor displays around. Just add some violas (perhaps purple!) or pansies and maybe a pumpkin or two. There are plenty of mums in a variety of colors. Maybe plant a few or strategically place them around the yard or on a table by your outdoor furniture for a burst of color. Because Greenstreet plants its mums at different times, you have the opportunity to get some that will bloom right into early November. 1721 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria

Burke Nursery & Garden Centre

Take a trip to Burke and check out the fall-themed market going on now through October 31, featuring seasonal treats, Halloween decorations, a pumpkin patch, pony rides, and more! Find mums (in white, orange, pink, lavender, coral, and salmon), asters, pansies, straw bales, and corn stalks for your fall displays and garden. The nursery has garden art, as well as pottery and indoor houseplants. 9401 Burke Rd., Burke
