Northern Virginia might not be the pizza capital of the world, but you can find plenty of tasty slices. If you ask the experts, there’s a good chance they’ll say to grab a slice at Stellina Pizzeria — which was just named one of the 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains of 2024.
The pizzeria, which has locations in NoVA and DC, ranked No. 40 out of 50 on the annual list of the top pizza chains in the world. Owners Antonio Matarazzo and Matteo Venini were also awarded the One to Watch 2024 – Casa Julia Award.
“This award is a testament to the passion and hard work of our entire team,” Stellina Pizzeria wrote on Facebook. “From sourcing the best ingredients to perfecting every detail of the dining experience, our mission has always been to bring the authentic essence of Italian pizza to our guests. We are honored to be included among such distinguished pizza artisans from around the globe.”
Stellina Pizzeria is known for the crispy crusts on its neo-Neapolitan style pies. They’re reminiscent of the pizzas you find in Naples, where Matarazzo is from. The menu at the upscale-casual eatery is full of dishes inspired by the ingredients you would find in the markets in Italy, including cuoppo misto, parmigiana di melanzane, and gnocchi funchi porcini.
The worldwide guide, 50 Top Pizza, also released its Excellent Pizza Chains list, featuring NoVA’s Pupatella and DC’s Wiseguy Pizza.
You can try the authentic artisan pizza at one of Stellina’s five locations. There are three in Virginia — Tysons, Shirlington, and Rosslyn — plus two in Washington, DC, in Union Market and Mount Vernon. The Union Market location has been recognized in the Michelin Guide.
