Home Tour: Peek Inside This $1.6M Falls Church Midcentury-Modern Gem

This renovated home is full of midcentury modern charm and high-end finishes.

By Melanie Jensen October 7, 2025 at 10:48 am

Just a short walk from Lake Barcroft in Falls Church, this four-bedroom, four-bathroom midcentury-modern home was built in 1956 at 3406 Barger Dr. In 2021, it was taken down to the studs for an extensive, modern update and expansion. The update brought the property to 3,248 square feet and combined midcentury-modern design with a turnkey, new-construction feel.

The home was listed for $1,645,000 and is currently under contract.

The exterior of the house is eye-catching, with angled rooflines and a bright, chartreuse front door that strongly contrasts the black brick and panel siding. The covered car park with vintage, refurbished wooden panels has electric vehicle charging access, and a secondary entrance into the home. Along with a concrete walkway and patio, the exterior has modern design features such as a linear accent light illuminating the number address on the home.

Inside that vibrant front door lies an open-concept living space with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. Solid oak floors, added during the 2021 remodel, run throughout the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. Off the dining room sits a sun-soaked, all-seasons den with several windows, skylights, and the second entrance into the home from the car park.

The living room features a stone wood-burning fireplace with an eye-catching yellow and white mantle. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room and glass doors off the adjacent dining room soak the main floor with sunlight. The space also features designer light fixtures and built-in storage near the stairs to the second floor.

The custom kitchen features two-tone cabinets, a full-height pantry, a geometric backsplash, quartz countertops with an 8.5-foot island, and black stainless-steel appliances. A wall-to-wall, single-pane window with views of greenery fills the room with natural light.

Through the sliding glass doors in the dining room, the covered deck features a ceiling fan and two heaters, making it a comfortable gathering space for several seasons. After the leaves fall, the deck offers winter views of nearby Lake Barcroft.

Upstairs — past the commissioned iron railings with removable matching child gates — is the spacious primary suite. The bedroom features floor-to-ceiling windows with foliage views, dual walk-in custom closets, and an en-suite bathroom. At night, smart remote curtains allow privacy and block any light from outside.

With a freestanding bathtub, a frameless glass rain shower, and a smart toilet, this primary bathroom guarantees a spa-like experience. The custom walnut double vanity provides plenty of storage. A second, private laundry room adds a layer of luxury and convenience. The second floor also features two more bedrooms and full bathrooms.

The basement level features a spacious recreation room with a wet bar, making it an ideal space for entertaining guests. The lower level also has a fourth bedroom and full bathroom, a private office space with a built-in desk, and a storage room.

The home at 3406 Barger Dr., Falls Church, was listed by Matt Brownell at Washington Fine Properties.
